Psychological Therapy

We use a variety of evidence-based therapeutic approaches to ensure that you receive the most effective care. We are trained in multiple modalities and typically offer an integrated approach to therapy. This means we draw on a number of different evidence based therapeutic approaches and tailor these to suit your specific needs. We are trained in and use the following therapeutic approaches in our work:
•	Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
•	Acceptance and Commitment Therapy or ACT (Chrissie only)
•	Compassion Focused Therapy or CFT
•	Mindfulness (Chrissie only)
•	EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing)
•	Systemic Psychotherapy (Chrissie only)
•	Schema Therapy (Stephen only)

What happens in the Therapy phase of the work?

When you feel confident we have captured where you are, we will agree realistic, achievable goals and begin therapy.

Therapy is an active process, both in our sessions and in your daily life. To get the most out of our work together, it is important to set aside time to engage with therapy tasks between sessions. We will help you to apply what we discuss in ways that feel manageable and meaningful.

We regularly review our progress to ensure we are staying focused and moving forward. If we are not making progress, we will openly discuss it and work through any obstacles. However, if things do not improve, despite our efforts, we may decide together to end the sessions.

How often do I attend?

Session frequency depends on your personal preferences and clinical need. Most people find weekly or fortnightly sessions helpful. As therapy progresses and you start feeling more confident, we typically space sessions further apart. Each session lasts 60 minutes.

How many sessions will I require?

If we proceed to therapy, our aim is to make all sessions count towards progress in achieving your goals. We pay close attention to how we are progressing and encourage open conversation about any difficulties that arise. If obstacles come up, we will work together to find ways to navigate them. It will become clear to us, early in the work, how long the process of change is likely to take. Most people attend between 10-20 sessions, though some need less and some more. Longer-term work is always a collaborative decision based on mutual agreement and continued progress.
