Terms and Conditions

Professional Practice

I am a Chartered Clinical Psychologist registered with the British Psychological Society (BPS) and the Health and Care Professions Council. As such I am obliged to comply with the Codes of Practice set out by these organisations.

Confidentiality

All information provided by you will be treated as confidential. However, there are limits to confidentiality which include the following:

  • If there is a risk of harm to you, your child or others then I am obliged to disclose information.

  • I cannot withhold information when required to provide it by social services or other legal process.

  • My work is subject to professional supervision and as part of this I discuss the content of sessions with my supervisor in order to ensure that my work is of high quality and as effective as possible.

In all of these cases, I am bound by statutory and professional codes of conduct to act in these instances.

Payment

Payment can be made via bank transfer or cash. This must be made in full 48 hours in advance of your appointment. If you are using health insurance, you may be liable for any excess not covered by your insurance policy. Additional services such as liaison with schools, other professionals and report writing are charged on a pro-rata basis.

Cancellations and Missed Appointments

If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please give as much notice as possible so that I can reallocate the slot to another person. In the event of sessions missed or cancelled with less than 48 hours notice, the full session fee will be charged as I will be unable to reallocate the slot. In the case of Health Insurance cover, you may be liable for any cost incurred due to non-attendance or cancelled appointments. I too will give as much notice as possible if I need to re-arrange your appointment time. I will only cancel at short notice due to unforeseen circumstances, such as illness.

Ending Therapy

It is important that we continually review progress and plan how best to proceed. You are free to end your work with me at any time. Ideally this is done in a clear and planned way. If there are too many disruptions to therapy (such as missed appointments) or other constraints to progress, we will need to discuss and understand this. In some cases, therapy will be brought to an end if a successful resolution cannot be found.

Risk Management

If any risk concerns arise within an appointment such as a person expressing suicidal thoughts and feelings we will discuss this in detail and agree a safety plan. Often this can involve informing next of kin, a carer, parent, family member or your GP. If concerns about risk of harm arise between appointments it is important that you discuss this with your GP or social services department. Please do not email or text me regarding urgent matters as I work part time and might not pick this information up in a timely manner.
