Eco-therapy

Terms and Conditions

Suitability

Whilst the research highlights that eco-therapy is effective across a range of client groups and presenting difficulties, it is not suitable for everyone. Both client and psychologist must feel comfortable enough in the chosen space. Any work undertaken outdoors will be given careful consideration and this can only be done once a comprehensive assessment and formulation have been completed. It is essential that the therapeutic relationship and goals for therapy remain the key focus even when the context is outdoors. The assessment for suitability is an ongoing process as a client’s response to therapy delivered outdoors may be difficult to predict and indeed change over time.

If there are concerns about client physical safety during physical activity and/or inclement weather (for example, due to pre-existing injuries or health condition) then consultation and support from GP will be necessary. It is your responsibility to inform me of any physical health issues that might effect your well-being and ability to complete a 50 minute walk.

Confidentiality

Special consideration needs to be given to the issue of confidentiality when doing therapy outdoors. We will discuss this in detail and agree beforehand how best to manage this.

Predictability

The outdoor environment is a more unpredictable and a less controllable space than the indoor therapy room. We will work together to try to anticipate potential problems/risks and ways to manage these, for example how to deal with unpredictable weather or meeting someone you know during a therapy session.

Cancellation Policy

The cancellation and missed appointment policy for eco-therapy is essentially the same as for clinic based appointments. If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please give as much notice as possible so that I can reallocate the slot to another person. For a first-time missed appointment or cancellation with less than 48 hours notice there will be a charge of £25. In the event of further sessions missed or cancelled with less than 48 hours notice then the full session fee will be charged as I will be unable to reallocate the slot.

If the weather forecast is not conducive to an outdoor therapy session, you will be offered alternative formats (indoor in person or digital) rather than cancellation.

Informed Consent

Prior to undertaking any outdoor therapy sessions we will discuss and prepare thoroughly to ensure a safe and effective therapy for you. We will both sign a consent form. Once we have commenced outdoor therapy we will regularly review and amend our plan and contract accordingly.

Please also see my general terms and conditions which are also applicable to outdoor therapy.
