Psychological Assessment
Coming to see a Psychologist for the first time can feel daunting and so we try to create a welcoming space for you to begin to explore the difficulties you are experiencing and to do so at a pace that is right for you. During the assessment phase we discuss areas relevant to your concerns incorporating past experiences, present difficulties and future hopes. This is typically carried out over several sessions. It involves working together to develop a shared understanding of things and work out what goals you might want to work on, if proceeding with therapy. We appreciate that making changes, especially to long standing patterns or habits is challenging and can be hard work. Therefore, the assessment also considers if therapy is likely to succeed by paying attention to a range of important ‘therapeutic ingredients’ such as your readiness and motivation for change and if the timing is right in terms of you being able to commit to and prioritize therapy. I offer assessment in relation to a broad range of areas.
Psychological Therapy
Psychological therapy, sometimes referred to as ‘talking therapy’, provides a safe and confidential space with a qualified professional to explore difficulties in our lives, develop an understanding of ourselves, learn and practice new skills and build resilience. It involves a partnership between therapist and client to work toward agreed goals.
Parent Consultation
Parenting is without doubt a tough job and can be even more challenging when our children are struggling with difficult emotions. These consultations are designed to offer parents a space to think about their child, to obtain support and guidance and to consider options.
Clinical Supervision
I provide clinical supervision to a range of practitioners including Clinical Psychologists, Counselling Psychologists and CBT therapists. The emphasis in my supervision is on providing a safe, supportive and reflective environment where therapists can grow and learn about themselves, their clients and their work. I am a recognised Clinical Supervisor with the BPS and registered with RAPPS (Register of Applied Psychology Practice Supervisors)
